Because the defendant, who was charged with two forcible felonies (murder and kidnapping), was seventeen when he allegedly committed these offenses, the charges were excluded from the jurisdiction of the juvenile court. See Iowa Code Â§ 232.8(1)(c)(1997). As a consequence, upon his plea of guilty, he was sentenced as an adult. See id.
